
Renowned actor Mawuli Semevo has sadly succumbed to injuries from a devastating domestic fire accident. He was 63 years.
He reportedly died at Ridge Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for burns sustained from the incident that occurred at his home on Friday, February 7.
The actor, who lived in the Adenta SSNIT flats, was asleep in his bedroom when the fire broke out in the hall.
He managed to escape but collapsed when he got outside and was rushed to the Ridge Hospital by neighbours where he was receiving treatment until his death.
Medical reports indicated that his survival could only be assessed after 21 days.
Unfortunately, he passed away just 13 days after the accident.
An earlier report by Judith Addison of Beyond Burns International stated that the actor had sustained burns covering 44% of his body, along with respiratory injuries that hindered his ability to breathe properly.
Mawuli Semevo was a highly acclaimed actor, celebrated for his exceptional talent and versatility on both stage and screen.
His impressive filmography includes standout performances in films such as “Harvest at 17,” “A Stab in the Dark,” “Escape of Love,” “Like Cotton Twines,” and “The Good Old Days: The Love of AA.”
He also played the role of Baba Fakunle in the adaptation of Ola Rotimi’s “The Gods Are Not to Blame,” produced by Image Bureau and April Productions and staged at the National Theatre last year.
His passing leaves an indelible void in Ghana’s vibrant film and theatre landscape.
