A massive fire has ravaged the Techiman Central Market in the Bono East Region, destroying several shops and properties worth millions of cedis.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that firefighters are working to control the blaze. Divisional Officer I (DOI) Alex King Nartey stated that efforts are ongoing to douse the flames.
However, viral videos show a different side of the story. Eyewitnesses claim the fire service lacks water and equipment to fight the fire effectively. These allegations have sparked public outrage.
This fire adds to the list of incidents reported in Ghana since the start of the year. Market and residential fires have become a frequent problem during this period.
The Techiman market fire highlights the urgent need for better firefighting resources and preventive measures. Without these, such disasters will continue to harm livelihoods.
