Samuel Awuku Resigns as NLA Director General

Samuel Awuku has officially stepped down as the Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA). His resignation takes effect from January 13, 2025.

In his resignation letter, Mr. Awuku explained his decision. He stated that he would focus on serving as the Member of Parliament for Akwapim North. “In the light of this new responsibility, I wish to focus my efforts on serving as a Member of Parliament,” he wrote.

The Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration appointed him as NLA Director General in August 2021. The Public Services Commission confirmed his role in July 2022.

A Legacy of Excellence

Samuel Awuku achieved remarkable success at the NLA. He won the Overall Public Sector CEO of the Year Award at the 8th Ghana CEO Summit. This marked his second consecutive win. He also earned the title of CEO of the Year in the lottery industry. Mr. Awuku credited the NLA management and staff for their dedication.

His leadership boosted the NLA’s regional and international reputation. He became the first Anglophone Vice President of the African Lotteries Association (ALA). He also built strong partnerships with lottery bodies in Ivory Coast and Nigeria, generating revenue for Ghana.
