Kwaku Manu Criticizes Democracy and Calls Out Captain Smart Over Harsh Criticisms
Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has voiced concerns about the misuse of democracy and freedom of speech in Ghana. He stated that democracy is not suited for Ghanaians.
In a video shared on January 21, 2025, Kwaku Manu expressed frustration over the abuse of democratic principles. “We have courts, police, and even the military, yet someone will sit on national radio and say whatever they want,” he said. “Democracy isn’t helping Ghanaians. It isn’t helping Africans. In fact, it is not helping Black men. How can kids insult chiefs without consequences?”
Kwaku Manu also addressed media personality Captain Smart, urging him to moderate his criticisms of prominent figures. “Our leaders should advise Captain Smart. Democracy doesn’t mean you have the right to abuse others. It’s time Captain Smart tones down on his insults,” he added.
The actor’s comments follow the resurfacing of an old video of Captain Smart criticizing AngloGold Ashanti (AGA). Captain Smart accused the company of denying locals their rights with military backing. Some netizens linked the video to a recent tragic clash between Obuasi residents and the military. The clash resulted in nine reported deaths.
Kwaku Manu called for stronger leadership to curb the excessive liberties taken under the guise of democracy. He emphasized the need for discipline to preserve respect and order in society.
