John Dumelo Urges Ghanaians to Support Made-in-Ghana Chicken to Reduce Imports

Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wugon, John Dumelo, has shared actionable ideas to curb Ghana’s reliance on imported frozen chicken. He believes that by prioritizing made-in-Ghana chicken, the nation can boost local agriculture and create sustainable jobs.
In a social media post, Dumelo stressed the importance of supporting local poultry farmers. “Imagine 1,000,000 Ghanaians consuming our made-in-Ghana chicken monthly. That’s an average of 1,000 small-scale farms producing 1,000 birds each per month,” he explained.
Dumelo further highlighted the ripple effect this shift would have on maize farming. With increased demand for poultry feed, maize farmers would be motivated to cultivate more, strengthening Ghana’s agricultural economy and reducing dependency on imports.
“Have you purchased your made-in-Ghana chicken today? We can make this work. It’s achievable,” Dumelo urged, calling on citizens to take action.
He also praised former President John Dramani Mahama’s focus on creating youth employment through agriculture. The government’s agenda to encourage young Ghanaians to venture into farming aligns with Dumelo’s vision of building a robust local poultry industry.
By choosing made-in-Ghana chicken, Dumelo believes Ghanaians can collectively support farmers, stimulate the economy, and significantly cut down on frozen chicken imports.
