Captain Smart granted GHC 100k bail over calls for uprising

Circuit Court 7 in Accra has today granted Radio and Television personality Captain Smart bail to the tune of Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis and one surety.

This was after the celebrated Broadcaster pleaded not guilty to charge of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29) levelled against him by the Ghana Police Service.

The case has been adjourned to January 11, 2022 but will be expected to report to the Police Station every Tuesday and Friday.

It could be remembered that the Police announced the arrest of Captain Smart over some comments he made on National Television of the need for there to be a positive uprising to fight the canker affecting Ghana.

His comments were defended by his employes Media General who saw his arrest as an affront to the freedom of Journalists in the country.

To them, the arrest of Captain Smart will put fear in Journalists in the country and prevent them from doing their work as expected of them.
