Decomposing body found floating on Volta Lake

A yet-to-be-identified man, believed to be in his 40s, has drowned in the Volta Lake near the Adomi Bridge in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

His decomposing body was discovered floating on the lake around 10:30 a.m. on February 19, 2025, by an immigration officer stationed at the bridge.

A team comprising the District Police Commander, Environmental Health Officers, a Military Defence Officer, and local divers collaborated to retrieve the remains.

The deceased, who was found well-dressed, has been transported to the Police Hospital for further investigation and identification.

This incident comes after a 19-year-old second-year Senior High School (SHS) student drowned while swimming in the Amponsah Dam at Bibiani Zongo in the Western North Region after a fun-filled afternoon took a devastating turn.

Elisha Akanlawen had gone to the dam with friends when the tragedy struck.

According to eyewitnesses, he was inexperienced in swimming but attempted to follow his mates into the deep waters.

Unfortunately, he was quickly overwhelmed, and all rescue efforts failed.
