Police arrest man with 92 slabs of suspected Indian Hemp in Akatsi

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man, identified as Bukari Yakubu, for possessing 92 slabs of a substance believed to be Indian hemp.
He was arrested during an intelligence-led operation in Akatsi in the early hours of Saturday, May 10, 2025, after several days of careful surveillance.
Police officers raided Yakubu’s home, where they found the 92 compressed slabs, each wrapped in a yellowish material.
Additionally, two Royal motorbikes, suspected to be stolen, were seized during the operation.
A statement from the police confirmed the arrest and indicated that initial investigations point to Yakubu’s active involvement in the distribution of narcotics in Akatsi and the surrounding areas.
The statement noted, “Investigation conducted so far indicates that Bukari Yakubu has been dealing in narcotics within Akatsi and its surrounding areas”.
During preliminary questioning, Yakubu reportedly acknowledged ownership of the seized items.
He is currently being held in police custody and is cooperating with ongoing investigations.
Authorities have stated that he will be brought before the court in due time.
This arrest is part of a larger initiative by the Ghana Police Service aimed at combating the illegal drug trade and organised crime throughout the Volta Region and the nation.
